Child Safety
DCR supports children and young people in the care of the State through services that support their safety, wellbeing and development.
DCR was first awarded Preferred Supplier status with the former Queensland Department of Families in October 2004. Today, DCR holds a state-wide licence as an out-of-home care provider under Queensland child protection legislation and is certified under the Queensland Government’s Human Services Quality Framework.
Professional out-of-home care
Direct Care Resources works collaboratively with Child Safety Services within the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety to provide professional out-of-home care, supervision and support for children and young people in care.
Experienced Support Workers
DCR’s residences are located across South East Queensland and Darling Downs, and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week experienced teams of support workers.
These teams support children and young people with a range of needs, including complex support and behavioural needs. Working with familiar teams helps provide greater consistency while supporting agreed routines, care plans and support strategies to be followed across the home.
DCR requires residential care staff to hold a valid Blue Card or exemption card and a current positive Child Safety and Personal History Screening recommendation. Staff must also hold, or be enrolled in and working towards, a recognised relevant qualification in line with Queensland’s Qualification Standards for residential care staff.
Before undertaking unsupervised direct care work, residential care staff must also complete the mandatory Hope and Healing Framework Foundations Training. This trauma-informed training supports staff to understand and respond to the needs of children and young people in care.
