Our Approach to Care

Direct Care Resources supports people with complex needs across residential care and disability support environments.

Our approach is practical. We take time to understand the person, support the teams around them, create opportunities for connection and keep care backed by clear communication, oversight and accountability.

This means support is not only about meeting daily needs. It is about helping people feel known, safe, supported and connected in the place they call home.

Understanding the person

Support works best when it reflects the person receiving it.

DCR takes time to understand each person’s routines, communication preferences, support needs, relationships and what helps them feel settled. This includes listening to the person, their family, guardians, support coordinators and others involved in their care.

For people with complex needs, support may need to respond to changes in health, behaviour, communication, routine or environment. By knowing the person properly, teams are better placed to provide support that is respectful, consistent and suited to daily life.

Great care depends on great people

Support workers are central to the quality of care a person receives, but they should not be expected to do important work without the right support around them.

DCR supports care teams with clear information, practical guidance, supervision and communication. Support workers need to understand the person, the support being provided and who they can speak with when something changes.

This is especially important in residential care environments, where small changes can affect how support is delivered. When support workers are informed and supported, they are better placed to provide care that is steady, respectful and personal.

Creating opportunities for connection

DCR believes residential care should support more than safety and routine. People also need opportunities to connect, participate and do things that matter to them.

DCR’s Community Programs were established to enrich the lives of participants and provide meaningful connections, activities and opportunities. The program includes ongoing activities and gatherings across South East Queensland, supported by participant-led input and weekly activity guides for support workers.

Activities may include creative sessions, community outings, movement, nature, cultural experiences, music, festivals and other opportunities based on different interests, access needs and capacities.

This reflects an important part of DCR’s approach: support should help people remain connected to community, not become isolated within a service setting.

Oversight and accountability

Some people need support that is carefully planned, reviewed and adjusted over time.

DCR’s approach is supported by people with experience across healthcare, clinical governance, behaviour support, care support and residential service delivery. This knowledge helps guide planning, review and oversight where needed, while keeping the focus on the person and their day-to-day support.

DCR is also a fully accredited NDIS provider and maintains recognised quality and compliance frameworks, including ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems certification. These systems support consistency, review and improvement across the organisation, sitting alongside the relationships, communication and practical judgement involved in daily support.

Care that stays personal

DCR’s approach is built around the person, the team supporting them and the responsibility of providing care well over time.

Whether support is provided through Supported Independent Living or another residential care setting, the focus remains the same: understand the person, support the people around them and provide care that is personal, stable and well managed.
